Add VAT to a price, or take VAT out of a price that already includes it. Enter one amount or a whole list, and see the amount before VAT, the VAT and the amount with VAT for every line, plus the total.
The rate starts at 7.5 percent, the standard Nigerian VAT rate. You can change it.
Add VAT. You know the price before VAT. Net amount × rate = VAT. Net amount + VAT = total.
Remove VAT. You know the price that already includes VAT, for example a supplier's invoice total. Total ÷ (1 + rate) = net amount. Total − net amount = VAT.
Example at 7.5 percent: a ₦100,000 price before VAT gives ₦7,500 VAT and a ₦107,500 total. A ₦107,500 VAT-inclusive price gives ₦100,000 net and ₦7,500 VAT.
Rounding: each line is rounded to the nearest kobo (two decimal places), with halves rounded up. The total is the sum of the rounded lines, so the lines always add up to it. For example, ₦1,234.56 that already includes 7.5 percent VAT is ₦1,148.43 before VAT and ₦86.13 VAT.

It works out each line and the total. It does not file a VAT return, keep a record, or decide whether an item is taxable, exempt or zero-rated.
For that, use VAT inside your books.

This is VAT reporting. Simplebks does not submit returns for you.

7.5 percent, the standard Nigerian VAT rate. You can change the rate for a calculation.
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. At 7.5 percent, divide by 1.075. The difference is the VAT.
Multiply the net amount by the rate to get the VAT, then add it to the net amount.
Each line is rounded to the nearest kobo, with halves rounded up. The total is the sum of the rounded lines, so the lines always add up to the total.
