Free Inventory Health Check

Answer ten questions about how you record, count, reorder and protect your stock. You get a score out of 100 and three to five specific things to fix first, each with the Simplebks feature that helps.

It takes about two minutes and you don't need an account.

Free. No account.

Check your stock habits

What it asks about

  • Stock records. Whether every sale and purchase moves your stock, or you update a sheet by hand.
  • Counts. How often you count the shelf, and what you do when the count and the record disagree.
  • Reorder levels. Whether each product has a level that tells you when to reorder, and how often best sellers run out.
  • Receiving stock. How you check a delivery against what you ordered.
  • Expiry dates. How you track them, if your products expire.
  • Branches. How you move stock between shops or stores, if you have more than one.
  • Shrinkage and control. How you find out about damaged, missing or stolen stock, and who can change stock quantities.

How the score works

Each answer is worth 0 to 3 points. Questions that do not apply to you, such as expiry dates when nothing you sell expires, are left out. The score is the points you earned divided by the points possible, shown as a number out of 100.

It is a tally of your own answers. It is not a benchmark and it does not compare you with other businesses. Use it to see which habits to fix first, and take it again after a month to see what changed.

Fixing what the check finds

  • Records that don't follow the shelf. Add your products once and let sales and purchases move stock for you.
  • Frequent stock-outs. Set a reorder level on each product for low-stock alerts. The Reorder now list in Stock planning shows what to buy.
  • Stock that doesn't match the shelf. Run a stock count and review the difference, or use the Stock Reconciliation list to enter the real count for each branch.
  • Stock that expires. Track stock by batch with an expiry date, and see what is expiring soon.
  • Stock that goes missing. Record a reason for every loss at each count, and limit who can change stock.

FAQ

Is the Inventory Health Check free?

Yes. There is no charge and no account is needed.

Does the check keep or send my answers?

No. The check runs in your browser. Your answers are not sent to Simplebks or anyone else, and they are not saved.

How is the score worked out?

Each answer is worth 0 to 3 points. Questions that do not apply to you are left out. The score is the points you earned divided by the points possible, shown out of 100. It is a tally of your own answers, not a benchmark.

Does the check tell me if my score is good or bad?

It gives you a number, the score for each topic, and the habits with the biggest gaps. It does not compare you with other businesses. Take it again after a month to see the trend.

What if a question does not apply to my business?

Choose the answer that says so, for example that none of your products expire or that you keep your stock in one place. Those questions are left out of your score.

Can Simplebks do these things for me?

Yes. Simplebks keeps a stock record that sales and purchases update, sends low-stock alerts on reorder levels, tracks batches and expiry dates, records counts and transfers between branches, and shows who changed what. Some of these are on Professional and Enterprise, as the plan table shows.

Keep your stock record in step with your shelf.
